What Original IC Actually Means

MagSafe cases fall into two groups. Plain magnetic cases have a ring of magnets and nothing else - they hold a charger, but the phone shows no animation and does not identify the case. Original IC cases include the authentication chip, so the iPhone recognises the accessory and displays the MagSafe ring animation the moment it attaches. Charging works either way; the chip is about the phone recognising the case properly, and it is the single thing that separates a good MagSafe case from a cheap one.

Coloured or Fully Clear?

A fully clear case shows the phone and nothing else, which is the right choice on a colour you paid extra for. A coloured frame gives the phone a defined edge and lets you change its character without covering the back - and it hides the scuffs along the sides that make a clear case look tired first.
